Week1:Media production and communication

On my first day (9th September) i learnt how to use the sony handycam and also how to set up a tripod and attach the camera onto it.

At first i did not fully understand how the tripod worked and had to have some help. After a couple of bits of help i had the camera attached and then remembered how to use the tripod for future uses.

I understood straight away how to use the camera and did not find it too difficult. I did a few camera shot which were wide shots, close ups and panaromic angles.

On my second day (10th September)I learnt what textual analysis was. I learnt this by being given a storyboard with 3 pictures on and had to give the connotation and denotation for each board. Later on the class watched the opening to 2 films the first of which being Physco it starts with a panning shot and shows a whole city. it then slowly zooms into a bedroom almost getting the readers straight into the room. The music through out the opening gives a sense of expectation almost bad expectation.
The second of these films was The Shining the camera was following the car through the roads it gives you the feeling that there is something very close behind the car this feeling is also helped by the music in the background.
